PACIFIC '  The
Border Studio set design for this musical makes clever use of a stunning
static set which incorporates the use of reveals, cut cloths and backcloths.
The musical is set on two of the southern pacific islands during the height
of the Second World War. The basic set consists of a multi functional
terrace come beach scene which is set with tropical cut cloths and three
dimensional palm trees of various sizes. This musical is fast moving and
necessitates the need for swift and sharp scene changes. We have designed
the set so that there is very little movement of hard scenery and props.
In essence as the musical opens most of the set is on stage and as time
progresses, items of hard scenery are removed to reveal the next playing
scene. The uses of tab backcloths are well incorporated into the design
and this feature aids the seamless flow of this fast moving musical. The
hard scenery and backcloths are augmented with an array of authentic props
and furniture befitting the time and setting. |
