'FIDDLER
ON THE ROOF'  The
Border Studio set design for this musical is a blend of sophistication
and simplicity in the use of trucked hard set and minimal backcloths.
The musical is set Around the life of a small Jewish Community struggle
to survive living on the Russian Steppes. The set consists of reversible
trucks, which combine to make up the Village of Anatevka. The trucks are
three-dimensional and are built in the style of slatted timber houses
of the period. The main truck in the set is that of Tvye’s House
and this truck incorporates an area for the Fiddler to stand as though on the roof of the house. The truck has access from both front and rear-a single door in the front and the whole of the back opens to reveal the inside of the house with all it’s fittings and furniture situated on the truck. The Tailors Shop truck is again reversible but this time the back is open to view and of course is fully equipped with fittings and furniture. Another key prop for this musical is Tvyes milk cart and this is supplied in various sizes in order to fit varying stage sizes. The hard set is complemented with an extensive range of small period props and furniture. |
